Baruntse Expedition (7,129m)
Baruntse is a significant peak between Lhoste and Makalu. It is in a remarkable location, at the meeting point of the Imja, Hongu and Barun watersheds. It is most impressive when viewed from Island peak and on its opposite side, it faces the awesome West face of Makalu, which is the current 'last great problem of Himalayan climbing. Our expedition will approach Baruntse from the Makalu side and climb the South East Ridge. The route crosses the Sherpani Col to gain a huge snow plateau at 6,100m. From here we gain the ridge, which gives a usually straightforward climb on snow, although there can be a steep ice step at around 7,000m which adds considerable interest to the final stage of the climb. Baruntse offers a tremendously rewarding climb among the word's highest peak. To add further interest, the team will trek out via the Hongu Valley and Mera La to Lukla, to complete a remarkable journey.
