Chamdo is bordered by Sichuan to the east, Qinghai to the north-northwest and Yunnan to the south. With the exception of Lhasa, Chamdo has the only other civil airport (Bangda airport) in the area. Chamdo has a better access as compared to many other areas of Tibet. There are 3 flights into Chamdo from Chengdu in Sichuan province. There are weekly flights between Lhasa and Chamdo en route to Chengdu on every Thursdays. Chamdo has beautiful scenery and many places to visit. However, there are only a few tourists visiting the area as it is still unknown to many travellers. Visit Tibet to discover the mystery of this virgin land.
As there is only one civil airport located in Kham (the Bangda airport) in East Tibet A.R. travelling to other places in Kham region needs to be done by road. Travel permit before setting out for Chamdo is a must.
