This wonderful, if under-rated, trek takes us to scenic and remote Langtang Valley, the Hindu's holy lake at Gosainkunda, and the Sherpa villages of Helambu. Starting at Dhunche, five hours drive form Kathmandu, we pass rice field, rhododendron and pine forests with plenty of birds and, in a short time, come to alpine pastures and snow-peaks. The area, designated a National Park, is habitat for the Snow Leopard, the Himalayan Thar, the Lesser Panda, Musk Deer, etc. the trail ascends to the Gosainkunda lakes. Here are superb views of the Central and Eastern peaks- and leads to the Thare Pati Pass, and then drops to the picturesque villages of Helambu.
