We arrive in Kathmandu, the capital of the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal and are transferred to Dhulikhel for acclimatization. Dhulikhel is an old town located about 30 kilometres to the east of Kathmandu, a pleasant drive of about 45 minutes passing through the beautiful traditional villages. The views of the Himalayan panorama combined with the rolling green hills and the sunrise/sunset are simply magnificent from Dhulikhel.
The next day, we enjoy a spectacular flight to the roof of the world- Tibet. We land in the Yarlung valley and drive to Lhasa, the spiritual center of Tibet. We have two full days to fully explore Lhasa.
Then we drive past the Yamdruk Lake and across the passes of the Karo La (5010m) and the Simi La to Gyantse and Shigatse. We visit the famous monasteries of Palkhor and Tashilungpo. The drives accross the passes are simply marvelous. We cross the 5200m Pang La pass to the starting point of our trek east of Makalu and Everest. Then meandering through the green forests and pastures of the Kharta valley past clear mountain Lakes and ascending to the passes of Shao La (4970m) and Langma La, which at 5270m is the highest pass on our trek add to the charm of our visit to this unique land. The views of the north side of Makalu and Chomolonzo and the east and north side of Everest combined with the beautiful flora on the wide meadows are simply breathtaking.
Our trek is followed by a drive in jeeps to Rongbuk, a beautiful monastery at the foot of Everest. Here, the north face of Everest offers wonderful views again. We fully enjoy our discovery of this area including the Everest Base Camp before returning to Tingri and on to Kathmandu via Zhangmu, the Nepal Tibet border. All the sights and scenes are simply wonderful to be cherished for many years.
